The "21" and Leadership
Many of you have read both of the books that I want to discuss today. I read them awhile back and realized that much of what I have learned, I had forgotten or was no longer practicing. And that was a shame. I realized it one day when I was standing around yelling at my children - all of whom are now young adults. Unfortunately, on that day, I was not what one would call an ideal leader. After realizing what I was doing (or more accurately being told how much I was acting like a jerk by my wife) I took the opportunity to go into the basement and dig out all my books on leadership and pull out the handwritten notes that I took when I read them. I chose these two books because they were the second and third book that I read on leadership, after reading "Developing the Leader Within You". Tony Dungy
I just read where Coach Tony Dungy's new book, "Quiet Strength: The Principles, Practices, & Priorities of a Winning Life", was released on July 10th. I have my copy ordered and can't wait to read it.
I have followed Coach Dungy's career for a long time. I have followed him since his early NFL days throughout his entire coaching career and have always been a very big fan. His coaching style, his quiet reserve, and his leadership qualities have served him well throughout his career. He is an impressive person and a wonderful role model.
After coaching his team, the Indianapolis Colts, to a win in this year's Super Bowl, I listened to his comments to the media after the game. They were very inspiring and faith based. After listening to him, one could only walk away wanting to be a better Christian, husband, father, and leader. What an inspiration he was on that evening!

John Maxwell and Leadership

The other day I was flipping through the television channels and I came across a talk show program that had John Maxwell as its special guest. I listened to the program for a few moments, paying particularly close attention to John Maxwell's answers to the interviewers questions. What impressed me about the interview was Maxwell's consistency. From the day I first found about John Maxwell to this day, his advice, insight, and commitment to leadership has been consistent and inspirational.
