Pray for Someone!
I heard the Reverend Therm James, Senior Pastor of Bethany Baptist Church, In Baltimore, Maryland, say, the other night, "We are who we are because someone, along the way, prayed for us." He wrapped it in a very eloquent message regarding the most powerful weapon we have, yet the most underused and misused is that of prayer. But his remark that "we are who we are because someone, along the way, prayed for us", really brought it home for me. Let me explain. (click on the "read more" link below)
The Fellowship of the Unashamed
"I'm part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have the Holy Spirit power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made - I'm a disciple of His. I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future is secure. I'm finished with low living, sight walking, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.
I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean in His presence, walk by patience, am uplifted by prayer, and I labor with power.
My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven, my road is narrow, my way rough, my companions are few, my guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the enemy, pander at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity.
I won't give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till He comes, give till I drop, preach till all know, and work till He stops me. And, when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me... my banner will be clear!"
This Election is About Race
As much as I hate to admit it, this election is about race. I've heard others say that this is not the case, but unfortunately, the evidence is overwhelmingly against such a position. Race is playing a key role in this election and as the November nears, it is going to weigh heavily on the final results.
What You See is What You Get
This year, in November, marks the 10th anniversary of the passing of comic Flip Wilson. For those that are old enough to remember, Flip Wilson had a variety show in the 70's in which he popularized his famous Geraldine Jones character. The reason I bring this up is because this character, Geraldine Jones, has made a lasting impact on the Internet. It was through Geraldine Jones that Flip Wilson uttered one of the most lasting phrases in American history - "What you see is what you get!"
This phrase was adopted by technology companies in the early days of computing and shortened to the acronym of WYSIWYG (pronounced wizzy wig) to describe a common property of text and graphic editors - meaning that the final output will be similar in look to the edited version.
Flip Wilson was a very talented and popular comic. When he died in 1998 he was only 64 years old. WYSIWYG is a lasting tribute to his memory. So, the next time you run across the term think of Flip. Here are a few videos of Flip from the early days.
The first is of Flip on the tonight show in the 60's and the second features his famous Geraldine Jones character with Muhammad Ali.
